摘 要:The talk will explore the combined use of animal flight measurements, engineered "physical" models, scaling analyses and reduced-order numerical simulations to better understand the unsteady dynamics of flapping flight. First, we describe a hierarchy of simplified numerical models developed to simulate unsteady flight. These models are then used in a variety of case studies including (i) bats subjected to an intense gust during flight, (ii) the role of passive wing rotation in insect flight and (iii) the necessity of wing folding during hovering flight.
